Old Library Chambers, Salisbury

Project Overview

Sensitive conservation and refurbishment of Old Library Chambers, Salisbury, combining heritage repairs with modern upgrades to protect the building’s fabric while improving its performance, safety and usability. From a fully designed and licensed external scaffold, Arden carried out roof works including clay-tile replacement, lead-flashing re-dressing, lantern-roof repairs, new Velux units and a Langley 20-year liquid roofing system, alongside masonry conservation — biocide treatment, lime-mortar repointing, stone piecing-in, façade repairs and a chimney rebuild. Joinery and glazing repairs, refurbishment of the cast-iron rainwater goods with bespoke replacements, and full internal and external redecoration completed the scheme.

Works included:

• Fully designed external access scaffold and protection, with extended hire and licensing

• Roof works: clay-tile replacement, lead-flashing re-dressing, lantern-roof repairs, new Velux units and a Langley 20-year liquid roofing system

• Masonry conservation: biocide treatment, lime-mortar repointing, stone piecing-in, façade repairs and chimney rebuild

• Joinery and glazing: timber repairs, resin systems, new ironmongery, metal-casement overhaul and glass replacement

• Refurbishment of cast-iron rainwater goods, with bespoke replacements

• Full internal and external redecoration

Approach / Key Challenges

A heritage building conserved and upgraded in parallel — lime-mortar repointing, stone piecing-in and a chimney rebuild carried out alongside a guaranteed roofing system and full joinery overhaul, all from a designed and licensed scaffold.
